So today was a nice day. Started the morning off calling people who had signed up and not filled out their profile fully. While it didn’t go perfect, it was better than nothing. I had about 8-9 providers to try and get a hold of to get them finished off. Well, I got a few on the phone, emailed a few and one called back evenetually. I’ll have to continue to follow up and nag people over the weekend. They will tell me to go away or they will sign up.
The first guy I talked to today was great. I was happy to hear that he just completely forgot about it. This tells me persistence pays off. Keep reminding people. There was a great sales guy that did a talk I saw on Youtube. He basically said keep following up until they tell you to go away. Lots of people forget and just need that reminder. So great thing I talked to him because now he’s signed up and offering electrical and HVAC services. Two services in one. Jackpot
Spoke to one of the first providers that committed to signing up. His profile was pretty much done but he only had one zipcode. After talking to him, I learned he had a hard time with the zip code sign up part. While I couldn’t replicate his errors, its something to see if we can find a better way or make it easier in some way. I told him that I would add all the zip codes for him. He said basically a 30 mile radius from his home city. No problem. Signed him up for a bunch of zip codes and asked him to delete whatever he didn’t like. Maybe we need more hands on for onboarding?
Spent part of the afternoon at the park with Clark and the wife. While I was there, I was hoping some people from earlier in the day would call back. No such luck, but our insurance person called which was definitely something I needed to check off. Got our insurance paid for for Fix it Today.
Someone called back! It was a handyman! Jackpot. So I learned a lot about different lead gen services he uses now and used in the past. The commonality is how everyone is leaving Thumbtack due to the bad leads and the high prices. I told him we are basically the anti-Thumbtack and the way we function is almost the complete opposite. Leads only go to one person. You cant pay to be at the top. Its not a bid on who gets the lead. Its strictly based on availability. You only pay if you accept an appointment. He loved it. Another person who said that these businesses can’t afford the outrageous prices of advertising. He spent $7k on advertising last summer and got zero work from it. With Fix It Today, that would be $0 cost to him. Changing the industry is making me smile. He also agreed if his costs were lower, the customer will benefit. We are on the right track.
