While I have had the time to write over the last few days, I haven’t wanted to. I’m going through a lot personally with our businesses and life and feel a little overwhelmed. Been taking care of a lot of personal stuff including shutting down our Amazon business. Shutting down a physical business is a ton of freaking work and sucks.
When you open a business, you hope everything is going to go well. In our case it did. For 5 years we seemed to grow and grow. It felt insane. Covid really helped our business as people shifted to the internet to purchase everything they needed. We 5x our sales over the first and year of covid and it was unbelievable. We started adding employees and needed more space. It was everything you could hope for. Until it wasn’t.
Its 2024 and the election is around the corner. Everyone on the news touts how great the economy is going and how everything is amazing but if you look around, its not that rosy. Our business slowed drastically. More and more companies are filling bankruptcy. Companies are laying off. Unemployment numbers continue to be revised up. Housing is falling….but everyone wants to pretend that the economy is going so well. If anyone opens their eyes and walks into a store, you’ll notice lower prices, clearance like crazy. Talk to employees and they will tell you how the grocery store is seeing less business. Talk to Walmart employees, they say its slowing down. How can the economy be doing great? Its not and we felt it first hand on Amazon.
Well, like I said above, we are closing our Amazon business. Lots of equipment, 3 more years on the lease, employees that had to be let go. Its a lot of work but I feel like there is light at the end of the tunnel. Words of advice if anyone ever reads this and decides to start a business. Do everything you can do build corporate credit and get EVERYTHING possible out of your name. Don’t let your business effect you personally. We learned the hard way and with Fix it Today, we will do everything we can to build corporate credit.
