Oct 14, 2024 – A Half a Step Forward

Well today’s goal was to get something done. I kind of did but fell far from what I thought should get done. Personally a little let down. Some technical issues along the way but some good news and some progress.

Started the day off at the office and a meeting with Scott my SEO guy. They are busy cranking away at pages for the site but we need way more pages and faster. With the “reach around” goal of adding other services (house cleaning, pest control, etc) and trying to get cheaper Google ads, we also need SEO tactics to try and rank for these same services organically. I wanted Scotts approval because I don’t want to mess up with stuff. We are going to use AI for the writing of these secondary services and then sometime in the future, they will come back and rewrite them with human written content.

When speaking with Scott, we talked about Google ads and Im happy we did. He said not to trust the Google keywords planner budgets for keywords. Just make some ads, set some max prices and see what happens. I spoke to him about how local providers I have talked to said their CAC was $200 from ads. He reminded me that those companies only close a certain percentage and its up to their sales people, availability, etc to make up that $200 CAC. Just start the dang ads and see what happens. I guess we are going to have to try that.

With SEO, I want to use Zimmwriter…but its only for Windows. So I can buy parallels and run it on my Mac or boot up a server with Windows. I figured I have plenty of server capacity and IP addresses, I might as well try that and see what happens. Got the server booted up with a little headache but its running and I set my IP address. When trying to use Windows remote desktop…damn thing wouldnt work. Said it was a firewall issue. Logged into the firewall and opened up the port on the server side and it still didnt work. Screwed with it for 30-45 min and gave up. Came home and it worked perfectly. So either I did something dumb at the office or the office firewall is blocking the port. Hopefully if its the office firewall, they will open up the port.

Well, got an appointment scheduled with an electrical service provider. It was their first appointment with us. I bought a new ceiling fan for our bedroom as this one has some bad bearings. Fun to kind of watch the process. I looked up the business on our admin panel and saw they didnt have a card on file. Then I get an email from Sentry (code bug catching service) to see we got an error on our production server adding a card. Uh oh… well, they managed to get it to work because I got an appointment confirmation! Then I got a skeptical call from the company making sure I needed an appointment. Yep. Well, kinda. I installed every electrical thing in my house and rewired the whole house my self. It kills me to pay someone to change a ceiling fan….BUT Im using my own service and I dont have to do the work. I just have to pay $150…and be home for an hour or two instead of being at the office doing work. Sounds like a great trade 🤪 Going to do HVAC maintenance too…That one I cant do.
