Today started out at 4:00am when Clark decided he was done sleeping. Surprisingly I felt pretty good considering how early it was. Got some questions from the developers but the concerning was was the small 2 minute outage of the servers last night around 10pm. New pages are getting made for the site and I just got an email from a big electrical franchise wanting to talk. That could be interesting.
Well, the server thing is a bit of a mystery. We run our own equipment down at a local datacenter. I and my buddy Jesse are both nurses by trade and like to tinker with this stuff for fun. After doing some investigating it looks like the firewall reset itself. We had a couple similar 2 minute outages before but honestly I assumed the uptime monitor was just wrong because I have received notifications before and immediately jump onto the server and its up. Ending up looking at the firewall and it said it was only up for 7 hours since the last restart. Why did it restart? Logs were wiped on restart so we don’t have any great data. Setup some other logs and notifications. The intermittent issue is a bit of an issue. I have a bigger firewall to install…just havent done it yet.
I’m happy to see the girl who is working on the new pages seems to be doing a great job. They need to be looked over, not because of her but because of AI. Still amazing how ChatGPT can make a great GPT, then the output starts to vary though nothing has changed. I created the pillar page for electrical today and built the first electrical page for her to copy for all of the electrician pages. These pages are going to get clogged up pretty quick with how many cities we will cover. I’ll need to look towards Scott for some suggestions. BTW, Scott is working on Google ads and said they are almost ready. Excited and scared.
To end the day, I got an email from a local franchies electrical firm. They operate out of DFW and Houston and seem to have a HVAC leg of the business as well. He just left an email asking for me to call him but it will be interesting to see what he has to say. I was really hoping that the small companies would be our majority players but if we can add a large company or two..it should be ok. I keep having to tell myself, its all about availability. We will see what he has to say next week it looks like. He must have emailed me right before he left the office.
