Nov 7, 2024 – Is There Magic Brewing?

Another low sleep night and not a ton of productivity today but some stuff got done. New pages to the site are coming and meet a super interesting service provider. We will see what happens. Even though it wasn’t that productive, Im very happy how the day went.

So training for page building seemed to go really well. Our employee was really happy that I made Loom videos to fall back on when there are questions. We ran into some issues with chatgpt and the custom GPT changing the format a little. This seems to happen with custom GPTs and Im not sure why. Im not going to tweak it for now and we will see if it keeps screwing up or not.

So this afternoon I had an amazing conversation with a service provider. Super nice guy who started a cleaning company about 5 months ago and looking for avenues to get out there. He was already a wealth of knowledge and I love hearing the horror stories of Thumbtack. Hearing these stories, while unfortunate, solidifies the need for Fix it Today. We ended up speaking for about an hour and I learned so much. Thumbtack charges in his cleaning niche are just as expensive as in HVAC which surprised me. He is also tired of fighting with Thumbtack to get his money back for bad leads. At the price he pays ($120) I’d call too and fight for my money back. I learned that they also stopped their online booking system because contractors hate it. He felt Fix it Today was a way better solution and we really understand the contractor side and are fighting for them. I guess he’s right. If we fight for the contractors, they win, homeowners win and we win.

This provider just exited the IT industry and has over a decade of SQL database programming experience. His insight on the data we could collect and analyze was amazing. When we did research for Fix it Today, getting data was hard because all of these service providers are private companies. There is just not a good data source out there and that made me want to become that data source. He complete gets that side and thinks it would be a great idea.

He thought Fix it Today was great because it solves a lot of problems. He thought it enough to volunteer possibly talking to some people he knows that are investors and a hedge fund manager to see if they would be interested in investing in our company. We have been back and forth about trying to raise money or an accellerator like Ycombinator. Is this a different opportunity? Is he actually someone that needs to come be part of Fix it Today? His skills qualification on the surface would make him an amazing asset to the business. Having a CTO for fundraising would be a huge help. He is also a great person to talk to investors why service providers NEED a platform like ours. Is there some magic brewing? Maybe, maybe not. Time will tell.
