Well, as the title says, it really hasnt been too productive. Yesterday I had some personal legal thing to take care of which wasted most of the day. The rest of the day was spent with the family. Speaking of legal…haven’t heard back from our trademark lawyers about the company accusing us of trademark violation. I really hope their lawyer realizes that we are not even close to violating their trademark.
So lets talk a bit about the trademark thing. The trademark in dispute is “Just Fix It” when our pending trademark is “Fix it Today”. I think the other company (which I do respect trying to protect their business) may be confused on their trademark. I think the issue is their website domain is justfixittoday.com and our domain is fixittoday.com. The problem with that is their trademark is not “Just Fix it Today”, its “Just Fix It”. I think their are thinking we are violating their trademark by our domain being similar but the problem is their domain is not a trademark. The trademark is in their domain but its not the actual mark they filed which is “Just Fix It”. So when you compare “Just Fix it”, the actual trademark, to “Fix it Today”, it is just not close. If our trademark goes through (which we believe it will) they will more likely be violating our trademark of “Fix it Today” by using the domain “justfixittoday.com” which could be confusing to customers looking for home services. I really just hope this will go away because I just dont think they have a standing and they are simply confusing their domain name with their trademark and don’t realize they are not the same. I’m happy to live peacefully with them and don’t plan on filing any type of trademark issue with their domain confusing it with ours if it goes through. We can just be friends.
Today started with a developer meeting then I went to bed. 5:30am meetings and didn’t have much to go over so I was back in bed at 6am for a bit more sleep. We have a big roll out coming out tomorrow which is code no one would ever notice. We are deploying new code that will handle time zones better but this means we have to redo the schedules manually for all of the providers on the platform. Luckily I don’t have to do it, the developers will.
So I’m thinking of reaching out to a few angel investors to see if anyone is interested in investing in us. I’d really like to reach out to JCal from the All-In pod as he makes himself easily reachable. My only hesitation is he has mentioned my biggest competitor a couple of times on the podcast. I feel like making sure we file for our patent first would be the wise move here. We could use more funding and it would be mostly used for a true marketing professional and marketing. I wished we are a little younger in the social media scene. I feel like it would make distribution easier. But, Im also glad I’m not because I feel like a lot of social media has lead to the rot of society (deep thoughts here). Anyone have some suggestions to angel investors?
