Well, slight change of plans. My awesome developers are working hard to get the code done for Monday launch and working the weekend, but Im afraid we will have to push it back a week. Had a good meeting with my business partners today and we decided it was best to push it a week. I’ll need to find a way to do something for my development team who is going to work hard over the weekend.
So this morning, we chatted back and forth with the team. They were a little behind but before they ended their day, they uploaded the most up to date code for the admin side, provider side and consumer. Id assume the logic side also was updated but Im not exactly sure. Tomorrow (Saturday) is mostly a day of testing to make sure things look good and upload the newest version of the mobile app to the two platforms. I’m confident in the team that all of their hard work for the last few months will have great robust code and work great.
So why are we delaying the launch? Well, a couple reasons really. I think we could use a couple more people to join for the service provider side. Its crazy to think but Im not exactly sure how many of what providers are actually signed up, we don’t have a front end for the admin to view the companies yet! This was a last minute thought yesterday or the day before. Second reason is I think it will be very important to roll out two more sections of code which are: determining if the job is considered emergency hours or not (while displaying the correct estimate to the customer), and being able to differentiate the different services a provider does. It wasn’t too long ago when I had the epiphany that there are several businesses that are plumbing and hvac or hvac and electrical. The employees usually do one or the other, not both. We need a way to differentiate what service is available. I can’t show availability for an electrician when no electricians are available, only hvac techs.
I think giving it one more week will be best though its slowly killing me inside. We have had amazing feedback from future customers who question why no one has done this before, it only makes sense. We are often compared to Uber. While I appreciate it, we are somewhat different.
During my meeting with my business partners, I told them I have a locksmith signing up. They were surprised then thought we should add more services. I think its great, but we would have to pause the outreach for plumbing, electrical and hvac to try these other businesses. Its a hard decision which to do. I think its probably best and stick with what we have and if other business types come along, we add them when we have businesses that want to offer services.
