Well, I thought it may be best to have a technical cofounder on the team being that we are going to apply for funding. Well, regardless of that, it is probably important to have one just to make sure things are headed in the right direction. Someone that can think outside the box. I realize that my ideas are not always the best ideas and not everyone thinks the way I do.
So I met a guy named Kody who I talked to about a month or two ago. He started a local cleaning business and was going to get fixed up on Fix it Today and try and get some cheap business in the door. Well after talking with him for 1.5 hours on our first talk, he was a super interesting guy. Had the last decade or so in the dev/database world. Decided to start a cleaning company and get out of tech when he moved to Texas.
So his skillset isn’t 100% what we need for development but he knows Javascript and he’s a pro with databases. What makes him so great is not just his experience in development but of a fit is his experience as a service contractor. He has worked with the two main competition companies (Angi’s and Thumbtack) and has real world experience with both platforms and knows not only how they work but how they suck. He has a unique insight that can really benefit Fix it Today as well as his outside the box thinking of how we can use data. He had great insights on the first call for things we can do to make Fix it Today better and he had even more today at lunch.
Kody has something else that I believe most standard developers may not have or not have experienced, the hard work and dedication it takes to start a business. Its not easy, you have to work all of the time and work harder than your employees. He has realistic expectations on how a business grows and that you won’t make money in the beginning. He has grit and experience that is hard to find. I think he will be a great asset to the team. I’m hopeful he will join us in founding Fix it Today.
