Today started off a little rough. Another day or not a ton of work got done but hey..its another day forward. I realized we have some decent progress and I’m glad to see we are getting more providers.
So today started off with a developer meeting. Well, it was supposed to start off that way. I was late. My damn Windows desktop did an update overnight and seems to have bricked the damn thing. So I can boot into Windows but the entire screen is black. Cant click anything, no start menu, no background. Can do CTRL ALT DEL and get task manager but nothing else. Don’t have a Windows 11 boot disk to get into a restore. Hell, I don’t think I have set a restore point in ages….so I had to make a decision. Spend a couple hours troubleshooting, getting a boot usb, try and move my data over by moving the hard drive to another computer….or just finally get rid of Windows. Welcome Mac Mini M4. I’m done with Windows (as much as I can be).
Spent most of the day dealing with computer nonsense…its amazing how much setup there is. Something stupid. I don’t have a magic mouse or magic keyboard from Apple. When I booted the damn thing up I was stumped. Ended up needing a corded keyboard and mouse…but those are USB A and the Mac mini only has USB-C. Well, my monitor has some USB A ports and connects via USB-C. Didn’t quite work but ended up using a USB-A hub with a conversion dongle. Go it up and running but it seemed to take way too long. Had to redownload everthing we use…skype, zoom, slack, blah blah blah.
So I got a message from an employee telling me a provider finished his profile and asking to be approved. I really need to keep on this regularly. Got a couple more people approved. I looked at it and I realized we have about 80 providers on our platform already. This last week we have had an influx of providers but also had services we weren’t setup for. Window cleaning, remodeling, carpet cleaning. Man… I have some work to do to get them all set up.
Also had quite a few emails that I was behind on of providers asking for me to add new services. Needed carpet cleaning, remodeling tasks, high ceiling work, pet sitting? I’d love to add all of these things and it’s complicated. We need to understand pricing structure and how best to display them on Fix it Today. Carpet cleaning from my experience is per room. How do you price pet care? Remodeling will all be custom quotes. While thinking of the custom quotes, some of this stuff people need to go out and bid in person. You’re not going to be able to bid it over a text message. We need to plan for that. Sometimes it feels like not much gets done but days like today bring out some important things we need to consider and plan really well now because changing it later will be a pain.
