Sept 26, 2024 – The First Pivot

Been spending a lot of time thinking about the plans and the path of Fix it Today. Struggling to get more homeowners on, we need to find a better way. We are coming up to a fork in the road as far as providers as well so, I think I have plan that will be two birds one stone. Time will tell and this needs to be discussed with my business partners.

So the fork in the road is to go to the next city or add secondary services to the DFW area. Secondary services would be services like pest control, house cleaning, mobile mechanic, etc. Services you really want and maybe can’t do without. By going this way rather than moving to the next city, we can advertise more services. There will be more opportunities for homeowners to get other services rather than the main 3 we are offering. The more opportunities to be in front of the customer, the better. Besides, if they use us for a house cleaner, maybe they will remember that we also offer HVAC services when their AC dies.

So the pivot is adding more services but its also a pivot on customer acquisition. Looking at Google’s CPC we see that most of these other services are way more affordable. Some are just a couple bucks a click. Surprisingly, garage door services is like $22. Who’d have thought. If we can get people in the door with cheap lawn mowing and house cleaning leads this will hopefully bring more use of our platform when they see the other services. We aren’t abandoning our core services but we are going around the crazy CPC of the trades services. We won’t need to pay $40-50/click, maybe $2-3 to get people onto Fix it Today.

Had a discussion with our project manager about the home maintenance side and we decided when you first load the app for the first time, we will ask you to setup a home maintenance plan. You can skip this step if you want to and go straight to looking for a provider but we can put it as a home maintenance reminder app first, and booking services as the backup. This really changes our image but I think it will be for the better. Offer a free app and give people what they expect. Then we make it easy to book other services they need help with and its right at their fingertips. Makes sense in my head…I’ll have to see if everyone else agrees it does or not.

BTW – my awesome staff is killing it. I tried to get a hold of a local company who we have used in the past to sign up with Fix it Today. No luck for me. Today I see an email go out to the same company because they said they were interested. Time will tell if they sign up. Just amazed how well they are doing compared to what I did.
