Well, today I feel like I woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Completely unmotivated to do anything. Our son seem to wake up the same way. I don’t think I got a lot of work done today but at least I did something.
Today I had an epiphany to just hire someone to do our Facebook ads. We have been talking to marketing and advertising agencies out there but I’m just not sure they offer what we really need. Learning the hard way that marketing is not the same as advertising, I realized the focus should be ads. I think we need to build a brand and a recognizable brand where people understand who we are, but we really just need people to start using Fix it Today. Paid ads seem to do this more.
The “local” advertising company had a few things to offer. I think I may have posted about them in the past but one of the qualities I really appreciate with them is upfront honesty. They let us know things that they thought would be useful, things to not use for them and things we probably had better skills to manage ourselves. They didn’t offer everything because they didn’t feel that was what was best for us. One of the main things they offer was retargeting ads. Again, these seem to be Google display ads across many platforms that Google is on. Its nice they can geofence it but my gut is telling me that Facebook ads is the better spend. Its only $1k a month or something and guaranteed 50k views. I think we can do better on views for the same budget on FB, though I have zero evidence to prove it.
So the bright idea today was to just hire someone as a full time employee to handle our Facebook ads. Again, as Jason Cohen says…”why do you think you can do a good job with something if there is an entire industry dedicated to that one thing?”….something like that. So, I checked Indeed to see what a media buyer costs…$25/hr… Out of my budget. So, what do we do, look outside the US! We have had VA’s from the Philippines working for us for the last 7 years or so. So, lets check there.
Posted a job online and have had lots of responses. Only one candidate so far seems to really be what we are looking for. Lots of creative type people that can do picture/video editing but no one with super solid Facebook ad optimization. Im looking for someone to test ads every week. We need the banger that everyone loves with a super low CAC. I interviewed a young guy named Raymond with 5 years of FB ads experience. Seemed very knowledgeable and asked good questions. I’m glad I know a little about FB ads so Im not going at this interview blind. He seemed excited that we are startup and he felt like Fix it Today “is a good idea!”. Having someone believe in the mission is critical to the success of a business.
