Well, I decided to have a daily diary or whatever about building Fix it Today. Since I way behind, I guess the first few posts will be about Fix it Today.
So first off, what is Fix it Today? Fix it Today is my way to solve a problem that we have had a couple of times now. Finding a home service provider when you actually need them. Nothing worse than your a/c breaking mid summer and you’d do anything to just get the dang thing fixed today. Most people just go to Google, search for hvac repair near me and start calling down the list. This system sucks for several reasons…lets talk about why:
- Sponsored ads – the fight of who is willing to pay the most for advertising is who gets the calls. They dont have to be a good company, they just have to be willing to pay $20-30 for the click and they may get your business. A local hvac company spends almost $300k a month on Google ads. Don’t forget, these costs are always passed to you in some way.
- Page 1 of Google results is stereotypically people who spend a ton of money each month on SEO. If you dig into the SEO world, you realize that the internet is fake…basically everything is. The leaders of local business that show up in organic results pay for backlinks, write nonsense blog content to get rewarded by Google, and all sorts of stuff. Did you know you can buy Google reviews? $30 can get you a guaranteed Google review that sticks.
- I hate calling people…you probably do too. But this is the epitome of calling people. You call company 1 to see if they can come out today…nope. Company 2? Nope. Company 3? You get the point. You keep calling until you find someone who can come out today and you pray they dont charge you out the wazoo because they were available.
This is why we created Fix it Today. Its our way to help homeowners find providers based on their availability. No more endless calling, no more people not answering the phone. Just click, click, click…appointment requested. Update within a few minutes with a provider thats coming to see you. Fix it Today won’t preference providers that just have deep pockets. We preference people who have availability today.
So this is the idea…and we started down the path. Going from an idea to actual steps in motion has been a rollercoaster and we will go through it each day until we catch up, then this will be our daily log.
